Matthew Leifheit: Around Sunset

Not so long ago, we sat down with Matthew Lefiheit to talk about his work and his curatorial practice. This time around, we are showing you Matthew’s “Around Sunset”.

Taken around Sunset Park in Brooklyn, New York. The photographs are documentations of a neighborhood that, at first, seemed foreign to Leifheit. Functioning more as aesthetic and visual investigations, the images from “Around Sunset” were produced under a heavily placed sets of rules. Leifheit would photograph only a certain distance from his residence, throughout a specific amount of time. The project forced Leifheit to laboriously examine his new found surroundings very closely.

Both beautiful and jarring, the images from “Around Sunset” instigate a sense of curiosity and alienation.
