Hao Wu is a Chinese photographer currently based in New York. Originally from Shenyan, China, Wu is interested in engaging ideas of cultural fusion and extroverted emotions.
In his series, “3448 89th St.” Wu explores his relationship with his wife as they occupy the claustrophobic space of their New York apartment. Functioning both as a metaphor for the constricting emotional relationship and a visual aid, the apartment presents Wu a space where a deceptively simple story play out like theater.
Jarring, distant and displaced, Wu’s images are also gentle and forgiving.
