Audree Anid‘s upbringing provided her with a past that is fluid and varied. Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Anid has roots in Lebanon and the Bronx. Currently settled in Brooklyn, New York, Anid is interested in photography’s ability to communicate her internal, emotional landscape.
In her series, “Re-fractions”, Anid revisits memories in her childhood. Anid painted over her family photographs using oil pant. The act of defacing personal images allows Anid to communicate emotions that may seem unintelligible. Through abstraction, Anid reconfigures her familial history into rugged surfaces that refer to unspecified, but pointed memories.
